INTERNATIONAL BONE CHINA SYMPOSIUM

PORCELAIN CITY

August 01 -18, 2022 / Kaunas, Lithuania

Professional artists are invited to apply for the 2022 symposium. The title of this Symposium – is “Porcelain City”. It is dedicated to the history of porcelain in Kaunas which started in fine ceramics factory “Jiesia”, where the first porcelain symposia in Lithuania were held.

This year International Bone China Symposium is a part of Kaunas European Capital of Culture 2022 programme. Kaunas is declared a European Capital of Culture in 2022, thus a lot of art events are taking place  during the year. The symposium will provide a creative platform for experimental workshop where artists from a variety of backgrounds can engage in creative practice using contemporary and traditional forms of ceramic expression. We invite to reflect  on post industrial  ceramic art  and design and create bone china artwork for the intended exhibition space. We encourage research, experimentation and innovation in ceramic art.

We foresee following our format prior by inviting approximately ten artists and educators from around the world for this year’s event. As with the invited participants, our residency would provide housing and communal meals, as well as workspace, materials, exhibitions spaces, seminar venues and media coverage.

Exhibition of the symposium “Porcelain City” is scheduled for 06 10 2022 in Kaunas Central Post Office.  At the same time we will present another exhibition dedicated to bone china porcelain design in Kaunas „Jiesia“factory in the years 1980-2000.
